Eperosa Stonegarden Grenache 2014

Barossa Valley, SA

"The Stonegarden Grenache is from one of the oldest vineyards in Australia dating back to 1858. From 1858 to 1962 the winery and vineyard was established by David Randall of Glen Para 3.3km East of the township of Springton. By 1873 there were 23Ha of vineyard on the property. The winery is now heritage listed and still has 6 of the original fortified vats of some 10,000L sitting in the arches of it's sawtooth roof. The vineyard lies at 390m above sea level in a rain shadow allowing the site to ripen fruit late into Autumn with low disease pressure. Grocke Viticulture manages the vineyard which is farmed organically with no herbicides, pesticides or synthetic fertilisers or synthetic fungicides applied. The Grenache is from the original 1858 bush-vine plantings with a total area of 8.5Ha planted at 2.5m x 2.5m vine spacing. While predominantly Grenache the block also contains Mataro, Shiraz and Malbec. It is the last parcel of fruit to be harvested in the Eperosa vintage. Stonegarden is truly one of the great vineyards in Australia producing a wine that has brilliance, power, balance and intrigue."
