Affectionately known as the "Baby Grange", Penfolds Bin 389 has been a cornerstone of Australian red wine since 1960. The 2022 is a commanding Cabernet-Shiraz from South Australia, matured for 12 months in American oak hogsheads — around 36% new, including barrels previously used for Grange and Bin 707 — which lend characteristic vanilla, spice, chocolate and cigar-box complexity. Blackberry, dark cherry, blackcurrant, dark chocolate, mocha, espresso and baking spice on the nose; the palate is dense and richly concentrated with blackberry, plum, mulberry, liquorice and cocoa, underpinned by firm, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a long mineral finish.
