Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz 2024 is one of the Barossa Valley's most beloved and consistently outstanding value Shiraz expressions. The name pays homage to Torbreck founder David Powell, who spent years working as a woodcutter in the Torbreck forest of the Scottish Highlands before returning to Australia to establish his now-iconic Barossa winery. Like all Torbreck wines, Woodcutter's is sourced from hand-harvested, hand-tended, low-yielding vines — delivering a richness, complexity, and texture that are rarely found at this price point.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Dark plum, blackberry, warm spice, vanilla, and a hint of dark chocolate
  • Palate: Succulent and rich with concentrated dark fruit, velvety tannins, and layers of spice and earthy complexity
  • Finish: Long, smooth, and satisfying — with a depth and texture that punches well above its price

Winemaking

  • Hand-harvested from low-yielding Barossa Valley Shiraz vines
  • Open fermented and gently basket pressed
  • Aged on fine lees for 12 months in large-format seasoned barrels and foudres
  • Minimal intervention to preserve the natural character of the fruit

Vineyard & Producer

Torbreck is one of the Barossa Valley's most celebrated producers, founded by David Powell in 1994. Built on a philosophy of old-vine fruit, traditional winemaking, and minimal intervention, Torbreck has earned a global reputation for producing Shiraz of extraordinary depth and character. Woodcutter's is the entry point to the range — and one of Australia's great wine bargains.
